La Monnaie ¦ Recitals ¦ Werner Van Mechelen ¦ Intro
Werner Van Mechelen
From Schubert’s fervent Litanei as a tribute to dead souls, to Strauss’s timeless Morgen celebrating everlasting love, and Mahler’s moving farewell to the world – Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen – Werner Van Mechelen brings us a programme of sublime melodies of contemplation and introspection for his first recital in the auditorium at La Monnaie. The Belgian baritone is a familiar figure on our stage, much acclaimed recently for his performances in Le Grand Macabre, Don Quichotte and Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne. He will explore a century of romantic German lieder by three of the most emblematic composers, accompanied by pianist Eric Schneider. The dialogue between voice and piano lifts these outpourings of the soul to their peak.
