La Monnaie ¦ Recitals ¦ Ian Bostridge ¦ Intro
Music for a while
English tenor Ian Bostridge brings us a recital programme with many previously unknown British influences. This versatile artist – who excels in baroque music, the romantic Lied and the 20th century repertoire – will perform splendid arias by Purcell, spiritual songs by Bach in modern arrangements by his compatriots Tippett and Britten, and love canzonettas composed by Haydn in England, as well as taking us on a discovery of the socially committed songs of Britten and pacifist poems of Walt Whitman set to music by Kurt Weill. This daring exploration of periods and styles, both for piano and voice, is also a journey into deep emotions, whose main theme is music which defers suffering and death… Music for a while.
