Julia Lezhneva & Il Giardino Armonico
With a wide repertoire spanning baroque and belcanto as well as romantic and contemporary music, the young Russian soprano Julia Lezhneva astounds us with her voice and its extraordinary purity, depth, range and virtuosity. We witnessed her talent in Les Huguenots last season, when she amazed the audience in the role of Urbain, for her scenic debut. For her debut performance at La Monnaie, Julia Lezhneva will be joined by the baroque ensemble Il Giardino Armonico and will sing songs of praise from the religious music repertoire. Whilst the baroque ensemble lets loose a tempest, madness and passion, the soloist invokes the many states of the heart and soul through the magnificent motets she sings: fighting spirit, entreaty and rejoicing with Handel, contemplation and jubilation with Mozart.
