La Monnaie - Marie-Nicole Lemieux
La Monnaie ¦ Recitals ¦ Marie-Nicole Lemieux ¦ Intro

Marie-Nicole Lemieux

Vienna and Paris, the two musical metropolises of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, provide the starting point for a recital of work by lesser-known composers. It is only recently that Alma Mahler’s lieder have had the attention they deserve, and increasing numbers of musicians are enjoying the well nigh countless melodies and harmonic turns that characterise her work. Franz Schreker is another rarely heard, but no less welcome creator of lieder. Turning to Paris, Claude Debussy and Ernest Chausson are joined by Guillaume Lekeu, the Belgian who wrote both the words and music for the captivating Trois poèmes and who died prematurely. Marie-Nicole Lemieux is no stranger to Brussels audiences: at La Monnaie she is remembered for her elegant performance as Geneviève in Pelléas et Mélisande.
