La Monnaie ¦ Recitals ¦ Véronique Gens ¦ Intro
Invitation au voyage
The soprano Véronique Gens is a specialist in the Baroque period and Mozart, whose performance in Iphigénie en Aulide and as Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito we recently enjoyed at La Monnaie. She is not only renowned for her charisma and distinctive voice in opera but also in song recitals. Here she gathers together some of the most beautiful and delicate French songs from the end of the 19th century: Fauré’s Le Papillon et la fleur, Debussy’s Nuit d’étoiles, Le Printemps by Hahn, not forgetting the famous Invitation au voyage by Duparc adapted from Baudelaire and La Chanson bien douce by Chausson, adapted from Verlaine. So many musical and literary jewels polished by the sparkling voice of Véronique Gens whose vibrant style covers the whole gamut of feelings. She is accompanied by the pianist Susan Manoff in this recital where the art of suggestion is at its peak.
