La Monnaie ¦ Other ¦ Cendrillon ¦ IntroCendrillonOver the past few years, author and stage director Joël Pommerat has become one of the foremost artists of the French scene. For him, theatre is a means of intensifying reality. His texts are poetic material of a very appealing strangeness. They express reality and are rooted in reality, but through their unusual language and the stage devices used by Joël Pommerat, they are contemporary tales which reveal the complexities of the psyche and the fragility of human relationships at the beginning of the 21st century. Like Pinocchio and Petit Chaperon rouge, Joël Pommerat has written and staged his own Cendrillon, inspired by the versions by Perrault and the Brothers Grimm, but with a resolutely modern face. He is also on the programme of La Monnaie with the Belgian premiere of Oscar Bianchi’s opera Thanks to my Eyes. Premiere
