A Night at the Opera
with Piano Club
The event for young people under 30 years at La Monnaie!
The famous story of Hamlet and Ophelia is played out between the opposite poles of real and feigned madness, love and avenge. The librettists Carré and Barbier distilled a straightforward story from Shakespeare’s abundant characters and situations, which, although it was clearly far removed from the original, inspired Thomas to write a coherent score that demonstrated his mastery of musical atmosphere. After their unanimously acclaimed Les Huguenots in 2011, Marc Minkowski and Olivier Py are continuing their highly personal exploration of the 19th-century French Grand Opéra repertoire.
Our guest for this Night around Hamlet will be Piano Club. The career of this quartet started in 2007 with the hit single Girl On TV. The experimental electropoprock project around Anthony Sinatra (Hollywood Porn Stars) already released two EP's, two full albums and several hit singles. On their last album, Colore that came out in the spring of 2013, the band continues its quest through modern pop music. The band delivers an exciting mix of genres with as only goal : creating catchy melodies.
After the performance, Piano Club and some singers of the production, namely Stéphane Degout (Hamlet) and Lenneke Ruiten (Ophélie), will meet and exchange their impressions. Moreover, there will be time for all your questions and reactions. And maybe we'll have a special surprise for you, just before Christmas...
The evening will be led by Grazyna Bienkowski.
