La Monnaie ¦ Dance ¦ Cesena ¦ Intro
For her new creation, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker once again turns her choreographer’s ear to the Ars Subtilior, a musical movement from the 14th century of exceptional refinement. This time she calls on the resources of a vocal ensemble in order to unveil the indescribable turmoil of this ‘more subtle art’, in which the complexity of the writing joins together with an extreme subtlety of expression. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker works in close collaboration with Björn Schmelzer and his singers from the Graindelavoix vocal ensemble, foremost specialists in ancient music. The interaction between dancers and singers is the central theme of the performance. It will be like the second part of En Atendant – its continuation or mirror – which slid imperceptibly from day to twilight. It evokes the dawn and the coming of the new day, whilst a stream of colourful reflections rises over the earth.
