Couples, doubles, opposites or complements: duos are a recurring theme in Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s choreographic work. Here he presents three variations marked by the special talent of the dancers who perform them. Faun is a new dance version of Debussy’s Afternoon of a Faun, centred on the awakening of male-female energies discovering and surrendering to each other until the moment of fusion. A powerful animality and enchanting grace emanate from their movements. In Rein, a young woman tries to keep her body straight without disturbing the air around her, whilst her partner gently brushes her unsteady body. Cherkaoui explores the desire for purity which leads to nothingness, through a physical relationship evoking this disappearance. Sin is a duo based on the work Babel, which explores the intimacy of a couple whose gestures move through the agitated meanderings of love relationships, between Eros and Thanatos.
