A grove of poplars in the south, the warbling of birds, the chirring of cicadas… In this patch of eternal nature, the paths of Sandrina and Belfiore cross once again, but the path of love – despite the help of Amor – is not always lined with roses. The violence of jealousy is indeed fearsome. In 1986, during the premiere of this production, the extremely refined and poetic world of Karl-Ernst and Ursel Herrmann allowed the characters in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera to finally display their true dimensions. ‘We have discovered a new opera by Mozart!’ exclaimed the press. This production is not only a pleasure for the senses; the universal humanity in the portrayal of the characters also helps ensure that the work has not lost its freshness a quarter of a century later. This is a delightful chance to see this mythical production again.

The production of La Finta Giardiniera originated in cooperation with the opera of the National Theatre in Prague. The original sets and costumes for the production were created by the National Theatre Prague, Czech Republic.
