In 1998, with twenty years of impressive artistic achievement behind her, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker returned to two of her great loves as a choreographer: pure dance and the minimalistic music of Steve Reich. The result was a stunning new work to Reich’s pulsating score for percussion, pushing to the extreme everything that had gradually come to characterise De Keersmaeker’s choreographic work: the mathematical figures, the sustained repetition, the geometric occupation of the space, and the art of continuous variation. Since then, Drumming has been performed repeatedly on stages all around the globe and has become one of Rosas’s most iconic and fascinating choreographies.
This live version – with the spellbinding percussion of the Ictus ensemble combined with the joyful vibrancy of the Rosas dancers – serves up a breathtaking fusion of movement and sound.
