In the opening concert of our symphonic season, three musical émigrés are to the fore. Our Music Director, Alain Altinoglu, combines Antonín Dvořák’s iconic Ninth Symphony with another work from the New World: Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto. This will be an initial opportunity to make the acquaintance of the Austrian Wunderkind, whose opera Die tote Stadt we will present later. The Belgian-French composer César Franck’s Chorale No. 2 completes the programme, while launching our voyage of discovery through the Belgian symphonic repertoire. On the organ will be the Belgian composer Benoît Mernier, the creator, for the occasion, of a completely new orchestration of the work.
