In this new production, Music Director Alain Altinoglu leads a cast of Mozart specialists through the sparkling light-footedness of this funny and inventive score, while the storyline and many dialogues get a surprisingly contemporary twist. Any resemblance to the current opera scene is purely coincidental.
One composer, two worlds. A youthful double concerto and a mature symphony. Paris versus Vienna. The glamour and refinement of a noble commission alongside the profundity of a symphonic testament. So the whole gamut of human emotions, expressed in two works that bear all the hallmarks of a multifaceted genius: Mozart.
The conductor Raphaël Pichon recreates the dazzling atmosphere of Mozart’s most legendary ‘Akademie’ concert. On the programme: the scintillating dances Mozart wrote for carnival in Vienna, along with the “Haffner” Symphony, and a selection of his great concert and opera arias, sung by the soprano Sabine Devieilhe.
